1. Do children really need maths tuition?
Maths tuition is not a requirement for every student. The key point of judgment is not "whether other students have made up for it", but whether the student has Learning problems that persist and fail to correct on their own.

Don’t just look at the word “small class”
Different institutions can have completely different definitions of small classes. Parents should ask:
- What is the actual maximum number of students per class?
- Does the class have one or two instructors?
- Is the teacher-student ratio the same when instructors explain and when students practice?
- Who checks and records students' errors?
- Are students from different grades or schools mixed in classes?
Math Insight's regular small classes have about 12 to 14 students in each class, and are taught by two instructors at the same time. The teacher-student ratio is no more than 1:7. This is different from the common definition of "group tuition" of 2 to 5 people in research, so this website will not directly apply the average effectiveness figures of relevant research.
4. 10 things you must read when choosing a maths tuition centre
Ask for diagnosis first, don’t choose course title first
"Form 3 Mathematics Class" only indicates the grade level and does not indicate the students' problems. Effective assessment should indicate the earliest breakpoints in knowledge, types of errors, and current level of independent achievement.
Should ask: Is there a common reason for these wrong questions? Which item to address first will improve the most issues simultaneously?
Check the actual instructor
A tutor's public examination results or academic qualifications can prove his subject background, but cannot alone prove his teaching ability. In trial lessons, students should observe whether they can understand students' questions, check writing, find mistakes and explain them in another way.
Should ask: Do the instructors in the ads teach formal classes themselves? Who is responsible for making up classes or substitute classes?
Ask about class size and teacher-student ratio
The total class size and the teacher-student ratio are two different concepts. 12 students with two tutors have different practice and follow-up abilities than 12 students with one tutor.
Should ask: How many people at most? How many people are there actually? How many instructors are present in each class?
Check whether the teaching materials are suitable for students
Having more teaching materials does not mean being suitable. You should check whether there are clear examples, layered exercises, answers or problem-solving steps, and whether they can be adjusted according to the school's progress and students' weaknesses.
Should ask: Will all students do the same exercise, or will there be different questions arranged according to level and error?
Confirm how to correct and redo homework
Only answer ticks cannot handle maths errors. Effective follow-up should point out which step the error is and what category it belongs to, and arrange for students to complete it again without the answer.
Should ask: How to deal with unfinished homework? Will wrong questions be retested after a period of time?
Identify the actual scope of after-school support
"WhatsApp homework questions" can be text prompts, photo corrections, voice explanations, or only responses during office hours. The services vary greatly.

Compare hourly rates instead of monthly rates
Courses with lower monthly fees may have shorter sessions, fewer classes, or additional fees for teaching materials. The total class hours and services included should be calculated.

Is it better to start maths tuition as early as possible?
no. Intervention should occur when persistent problems that cannot be corrected on your own are discovered. When there is no specific need, adding tuition too early may only take up independent study and rest time.
How many classes a week is appropriate?
There is no single answer. Regular follow-up can start with one class per week; for cross-grade supplementary education or for exams approaching, the frequency can be increased according to clear goals, but time for digestion and independent practice must be retained.
Are small classes necessarily more effective than large classes?
